Oakwood Day Centre, Faringdon
The Day Centre
Oakwood Day Centre is run by Age Concern Oxfordshire and is set in the centre of Faringdon. Its service users are aged between 71 and 103, about half are physically disabled.
The brief
The idea was to make a short DVD with the service users themed “How would you like to see your day centre in the future”. The project aimed to look forward rather than back, and also to de-mystify film and computer editing.
The work
Film maker Ali Palmer-Smith worked with a group of service users aged between 86 and 103. They very much enjoyed using the camera and microphone and also being involved in the editing of the raw footage. There were some interviews done with the public in the town centre about the nature of Day Centres, and the film had its premiere with the public at Oakwood.
